The ninth month of the Islamic year, during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset. It is within the month of Ramadan, the Holy Qur’an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar.

At sunset in the evening, a prayer called Maghrib is observed, followed by a meal to break the fast. This meal to break the fast is called Iftar.
