Chairman's Update 24.09.23

Including: House of Lords, AHSN & Yohlar Workshop, Show Business and much more.

This week, our Chairman continues to connect, support and promote the Asian and Wider Communities.


Monday:

  • The week started with Ammar joining the regular progress meeting with Nicander to continue developing the international plan for intelligent transport systems.

  • Followed by a planning session with the Academic Health Science Network for the roll-out of CDRC, a clinical diagnostic tool that improves patient care and outcomes.

  • The day ended catching up with Lt. Col. Jamie Linsdell CSMP, commanding officer for 101 Regiment British Army, at the SME Centre of Excellence offices to discuss future plans. Ammar is the Honorary Colonel of the regiment.

Tuesday:

  • Long term ABC supporter and ex-MP Dave Anderson visited Ammar to discuss further support for the Durham Miners Marras campaign. Ammar has been helping the Durham Miners Associations promote their activities including supporting the refurbishment of the iconic Durham Miners Hall.

  • Following on Ammar met with Jane Heath at Gosforth Hotel to discuss plans for the upcoming ABC Awards Dinner at Gosforth Park

  • The afternoon was spent in a strategy session with the AHSN to discuss innovation led programmes that can help address some of the most challenging issues effecting healthcare.

Wednesday:

  • Early start for Ammar who travelled to London to meet investor bankers, international investors and join Yorkshire Asian Business Association for the launch of the North Asian Powers' NAP Ethnic Minority Business Barometer and to celebrate the Northern Asian Power List 2023 at the House of Lords, where Ammar delivered a speech to all of the attendees alongside Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE and Sharon Jandu OBE. In the evening Ammar met with Lord Donald Curry CBE to discuss the Elizabeth Memorial and Rural business support.


Thursday:

  • Ammar and the Yohlar team were joined by the Academic Health Science Network to facilitate an Investment, Innovation and Internationalisation Workshop. The event aimed to assist digital and life science organisations in securing funding and exploring international growth opportunities. The event included participants delving into crafting compelling elevator pitches using their value propositions, a critical skill for securing funding as well as taking part in the Rapid Discovery Session. The lively panel session with interactive Q&A provided invaluable insights for all participants. Guest Speakers included Raman Sehgal, founder of Ramarketing, Sean Fooy from the British Business Bank and Rhiannon Nightingale, the Investment Manager at Foresight Group. Friday:

  • Ammar and Jalf held their Weekly Show Business Radio Show on Spice FM where they discussed this week's events, football, the business topic of the week being all about the 10 must-have qualities of a successful entrepreneur. Steven Fee and Martha Germany joined towards the end to discuss the ABC Awards and the Yohlar Workshop.

  • Following on, Ammar attended the Newcastle University Business School event where he took part in a North East Business Landscape panel event with John McCabe Chief Exec of the North East Chamber of Commerce and Rojin Yarahmadi from PolyBox Solutions.

  • The week ended with Ammar meeting with a group of clinical entrepreneurs who are all establishing their businesses within the North East and are being supported by the SME Centre of Excellence and the International Trade Centre of Airview Park.
