John McDonald
John McDonald is a seasoned Disability Consultant with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare sector. Following his diagnosis of bowel cancer and hydrocephalus in 2016, John underwent treatments that resulted in challenges related to fatigue and balance. Despite these, he has developed coping strategies that allow him to lead a fulfilling life both personally and professionally.
John’s work is driven by his passion for improving inclusion and creating an inclusive society where differences are celebrated. He advocates for the concept of "Cities of Belonging", which aims to bridge the gaps between social, economic, and employment sectors to foster inclusion across all areas of society.
A strong advocate for social change, John uses various social media platforms to promote inclusion, raise awareness, and build a community of support and collaboration. His efforts have earned him recognition and shortlistings for prestigious awards, including the Neuro Rehab Times Above & Beyond Award, the Northern Echo BusinessIQ Diversity and Inclusion Award, and the Small Business Britain Bricks & Clicks Award.
In addition to his consulting work, John serves as the Deputy Chair of the regional disability forum and is actively involved with initiatives like the North East and Cumbria Health & Life Science Pledge and North East Together Leaders in Social Change.
