Indian Association North East

In April 2023, a passionate group of Indian diaspora members from various professional backgrounds came together with a shared mission: to create an umbrella organisation that connects and nurtures both ancient and modern Indian arts and culture in the North East. From this vision, the Indian Association North East (IANE) was born.

In a remarkable display of teamwork and commitment, IANE swiftly secured funding and organised a groundbreaking cultural event at the Civic Centre’s Banqueting Hall, drawing an impressive 750 attendees. This four-hour celebration of India’s Independence Day featured 75 talented artists, 14 distinguished guests, and a vibrant marketplace of stalls, with the event gaining media coverage from BBC Look North. The event was a resounding success, fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s rich history and culture while uniting people from diverse backgrounds.

IANE also hosted Newcastle’s first "IANE's Got Talent" show, showcasing incredible talent from across the region and representing all age groups. This initiative further solidified the organisation’s role as a community cornerstone, offering platforms for cultural expression and fostering meaningful engagement.

As an anchor organisation, IANE has established itself as a vital force in the North East, uniting various cultural groups and serving as a beacon for cultural awareness, inclusion, and education. Their dedication to organising large-scale, impactful events has cemented their place as a leader in community engagement, making them a standout nominee for this prestigious award.
